THE GUY

La Crescent grape is this weird little hybrid grape that we source from the UP. We normally turn our noses up to hybrids, but this one is making us rethink everything. La Crescent is tropical on the nose, yet crisp and citrusy on the pallet. When paired with 100% steel Chardonnay, this guy, THE GUY drinks more like a Chenin Blanc or Sauv Blanc.

BEEP BEEP

100% Cabernet Franc, fermented in stainless steel before aging for 18 months in neutral oak barrels. The extended barrel time mellowed the acidity and brought added balance to this vintage — one we think Cab Francers will love.

BUCKET

All three varietals were fermented on their native yeasts separate from one another, before being blended and stored in neutral french oak barrels for 6 months. When we started Shed Wine in Michigan, we had hoped to find a way to make a “glou glou” of the kind you can expect in a warmer climate like California. This has proven to be a challenge, but in comes Bucket so save the day.

MY FRIEND PAN

Whole cluster pinot noir was pressed immediately in the hopes of creating a white wine from the red grape. Over time the color dropped until it reached a beautiful pale pink and Pan decided that was the right shade. We took Pan to bottle with the tiniest amount of residual sugar still left to ferment, which created a dry rose with a delicate effervescence.

SIT TALK

The 2023 is our first take on a Chardonnay and we made it the way we love to drink it – light, bright, and very elegant. Sit Talk is the definition of a crisp white made for popping open mid day to accompany some fresh fish or oysters. At only 10.5% alcohol by volume, you can indulge without carrying the weight of your picnic lunch around with you the rest of the day. We believe that this wine solidifies Michigan Chardonnay as a natty wine staple.

LEAVE THE DOOR OPEN

The 2023 Leave the Door Open is a blend of 70% Cabernet Franc and 30% La Crescent. Both the CF and the LC were fermented on native yeasts separately, before being blended together. The CF delivers classic notes of earthy red fruit and spices, while the LC layers in a tropical brightness that makes this wine so unique. The combination creates an aromatic bouquet of orange blossoms, bright stone fruit on the palette, followed by a dry and refreshing finish.

BEEP BEEP

The 2022 Beep Beep is 100% Cabernet Franc that finished primary fermentation in steel before being racked into neutral oak barrels, where it underwent malolactic fermentation and aged for 8 months. Michigan’s climate can be difficult for some vinifera to reach a ripeness that produces big Bordeaux wines. While those wines serve their purpose, they are not what we set out to produce. Beep Beep was picked and destined to become a light but elegant red wine.

THE SHED

You know that place you go to think, tinker, create? That’s the Shed for us. Shed Wine became a twinkle in our eye in the Shed in our yard in Santa Monica, California. We were inspired by the natural wine scene throughout Central and Northern California and wanted to bring those light, juicy, glou glou tastes back to our home state of Michigan. Shed Wine is created with delicious grapes from Leelanau Peninsula using the native yeast for spontaneous fermentation and leaving the wine unfined and unfiltered – producing an unadulterated Northern Michigan wine.
